DOROTHY WOODS

-

Dorothy Joe (Mcclure) Woods, age 89, formerly of Texarkana, AR, passed away peacefully at home in Royse City, TX, on Sunday May 14, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 30, 1934, to Eben and Ollie Mcclure, the youngest of five children.

Mitchell Woods, Sr. swept her off her feet and they were married June 23, 1951, in Texarkana, AR. They raised four children – Mitchell Jr., Lorna, Tonya and Thomas – on their homeplace in Rondo.

Dorothy Joe was a realtor for 48 years. She and Mitchell also raised worms and had commercial greenhouses. The two later refurbished rental properties in the Texarkana area. Dorothy Joe never met a stranger and despite her habit of always running late, she was the first one to step up when someone she knew needed help. She was fearless and courageous and had a passion for her work.

Dorothy Joe had many interests and hobbies including collecting Santa Clauses, cooking for her family and friends, playing the organ and the piano, painting, sewing, gardening, crocheting, and trying any other crafts that interested her. It was her diverse knowledge of these hobbies and crafts that led her to serve as a Miller County Fair judge, EHC leader, Alateen counselor, and church volunteer.

Dorothy Joe was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years: Mitchell L. Woods Sr.; her parents: Eben and Ollie Mcclure; two brothers: Garth and Glenn Mcclure; and two sisters: Mary Alice Thatcher Autrey and Martha Lou Malone. She is survived by four children: Mitchell Woods and wife Kim of Royse City, TX, Lorna Chander (late husband Will) of Texarkana, AR, Tonya Raymond and husband Michael of Oklahoma City, OK, and Thomas Woods and wife Angela of Bokchito, OK. She is also survived by four grandchildren: David, Brooke, Fallon and Ryan; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

A celebration of Dorothy Joe’s life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Liberty International Ministries, formerly Flower Acres Baptist Church, 3000 Flower Acres Road, Texarkana, TX. Dorothy Joe always told her family that in lieu of flowers, she would like contributions made to this church.
