What happened to Latoya?

16 years after young mother’s disappearance, police continue search for answers

TEXARKANA, Texas — It’s been 16 years since Latoya Grissom left her grandmother’s apartment.

The 25-year-old was supposed to be gone briefly, because her grandmother was watching her children. She has not been seen since.

Grissom left her grandmother’s apartment on Allen Lane about 3:30 p.m. Sept. 5, 2007. She was last seen getting into a small, dark-colored car.

After she had been gone for several days without calling home, her family reported her missing. Local police entered her name into their missing persons databases.

Texarkana Texas Police Department thinks Grissom met with foul play.

“After all these years, our detectives still continue to work to solve this case to help provide some closure for her family,” said Shawn Vaughn, TTPD public information officer.

Vaughn said in recent years, detectives have conducted several interviews, executed a search warrant and submitted evidence to the state crime lab.

In 2010, Grissom’s purse and some other personal items were found along a creek in Texarkana.

“Despite their best efforts, nothing has been discovered that conclusively led them to the person who is responsible for what happened to her,” Vaughn said.

Detective Cliff Harris is asking anyone who might know something about Grissom’s disappearance to reach out to him at 903-798-3116.

“Even the seemingly smallest and most insignificant piece of information might be just what he needs to be able to solve this case,” Vaughn said. “We know there is someone out there who knows something that can help solve this case. We’re just trying to locate them so we can finally connect the dots.”
