TEXARKANA, Texas — A man indicted in a 2016 murder on Waterman Street has a trial date scheduled for February 2024.

Treveyon Tyrone Henderson, 24, is charged with capital murder by terroristic threats in the Jan. 29, 2016, death of Fred Griffin. Griffin was found shot several times in his Waterman Street home in January 2016.

Henderson was 17 at the time of the crime. A pretrial date of Nov. 6 has been set for Henderson along with a final pretrial date of Feb. 6 and a trial date of Feb. 13, according to Bowie County court records.

Henderson is represented by Jeff Harrelson with the Bowie County public defender’s office, according to court records.

Detectives with the Texarkana Texas Police Department obtained a warrant for Henderson two years ago but had to wait until he was released from a Texas prison on an unrelated robbery charge before it could be served. A custody hold was placed on him so once he completed his sentence on the other charge, he was transported to Texarkana. He was arrested in June and booked into the Bi-state jail.

Henderson was indicted in July, according to court records.

TTPD also has a capital murder warrant for another man, who was a juvenile at the time of the alleged murder, in Griffin’s death.

Because of his age, Henderson is not eligible for the death penalty if found guilty of capital murder. Individuals under age 18 who are found guilty of capital murder face a sentence of life with parole possible after 40 years.

Henderson is being held in the Bowie County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
