James Bowie claims back-to-back 9-2A district titles

DETROIT, Texas — James Bowie became the District 9-2A champion for a second straight year after finishing the regular season undefeated with a 40-8 triumph over Detroit on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

In the contest against Detroit, the Pirates gained 248 yards with 240 yards coming on the ground.

Tyner Melton carried the ball four times for 73 yards, had eight receiving yards and a touchdown. Dylan Braley had five touches for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Lane Johnson scored twice including a 60-yard punt return. Zack Dukes got into the end zone for another score.

James Bowie (7-3, 5-0) plays Wortham at Lone Oak on Friday.

DEKALB 50, REDWATER 18

DEKALB, Texas — Dekalb took control of the game in the first quarter and never let off the gas agaisnt Redwater on Friday night at Bear Stadium.

Redwater (4-5, 3-3), which had 256 total yards, fought to get back in it but couldn’t produce enough offense to overcome a formidable Dekalb team.

Quarterbac­k Gavin Carrell completed nine of 17 attempts for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Farrar carried the ball 23 times for 94 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Satterfiel­d had 93 yards receiving and a touchdown. Brody Johnson had a touchdown reception.

With the win, Dekalb wraps up the regular season 7-2 overall on the season and 5-1 in district.

Dekalb will go into the bi-district round to face off against Arp on Friday, while Redwater will play West Rusk on Thursday.

ATLANTA 42, TATUM 22

TATUM, Texas — Rabbits quarterbac­k Peyton Harrison had a good night helping Atlanta easily move past Tatum in their season finale on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

Harrison completed 14 of 24 passes for 240 yards and four scores.

Jamarion Austin led all rushers gaining 64 yards on two carries. Jayden Riley added 34 yards on five carries, scoring twice on the ground. Riley also had five catches for 109 yards and added a receiving touchdown. Markeylin Batton caught six passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Dimoree Limbrick had nine solo tackles, one of them for a loss. Zamarian Ivery added a sack.

Atlanta evens its overall record at 5-5 and moves to 3-2 in district.

They will begin their postseason journey against Winnsboro on Thursday night.

GILMER 64, PITTSBURG 6

GILMER, Texas — Pittsburg had 215 yards of total offense but only one touchdown in the game at Gilmer on Friday at Jeff Traylor Stadium.

Jaylen Holloway carried the ball 28 times for 112 yards and had two receptions for 68 yards and the only Pirate touchdown.

Holloway found the end zone on a 58-yard pass from Quarterbac­k Nick Styles, who completed five of 11 attempts for 86 yards. He also carried the ball nine times adding 17 yards.

On defense, Will Taylor had a sack, eight solo tackles and assisted in three more, one for a loss.

Gilmer draws Center in a bi-district tilt on Friday night.

MAGNOLIA 45, HOPE 34

HOPE, Ark. — Magnolia outlasted Hope in a high-scoring shootout on Friday night at Foy Hammons Stadium.

Magnolia (5-5, 3-4 5A-south) led 14-7 in the first quarter with touchdown runs of 2 yards by Lemell Martin and 27 yards by Kaleb Roach.

Antonio Brooks scored from 21 yards out to extend the Panthers’ lead to 21-7 in the second quarter. Tyler Patterson threw a touchdown pass to Isaac Love, the pair’s second scoring connection of the first half, to pull the Bobcats within 21-14 later in the quarter. Brayden Sanchez kicked a 39-yard field goal before halftime to make it 24-14 Magnolia.

Ryderius Moore’s 42-yard touchdown run gave the Panthers a 31-14 advantage in the third quarter.

Hope (2-8, 1-6) pulled closer in the fourth quarter with Patterson’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Jay Monk to cut the lead to 31-21. Moore answered with a 39-yard touchdown run for the Panthers, who extended the lead to 38-21.

Patterson found Love for a third touchdown reception, this one for 57 yards, to trim the Panthers’ advantage to 38-28.

Magnolia made it 45-28 on Brooks’ 15-yard touchdown pass to Martin.

Patterson found Monk for a 30-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring for the Bobcats.

NASHVILLE 62, LONOKE 7

NASHVILLE, Ark. — Tre Hopkins rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns as Nashville rolled past Lonoke in a nonconfere­nce game Friday at Scrapper Stadium.

For the Scrappers, D.J. Jefferson rushed nine times for 64 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 3 of 4 passes. Karson Chambers completed 6 of 12 passes for 72 yards. Kasen Morgan had five receptions for 66 yards.

With the win, the Scrappers move to 7-3 on to finish off their regular season campaign.

Nashville will go into the first round of the playoffs and clash with Crossett on Friday night.

VOLLEYBALL HOOKS OUSTED AFTER LOSING TO TATUM IN THREE SETS

The Lady Hornets finished their season as bi-district champions and area finalist.

Tatum beat Hooks in three Thursday night, 21-25, 17-25, 19-25.

Marleigh Smith had nine serving points with one of those being an ace. Morgan Creer had a total of 12 kills and two blocks. Kinsley Birdwell had nine kills and eight digs. Rayya Brown had a total of five kills and Anna Beth Black and Deonna Johnson both had two kills each. Alee Winniford had 18 assists and Addy Hale had 12. Maddie Campbell added 15 digs.

WHITE OAK ELIMINATES ATLANTA IN PLAYOFFS

MARSHALL, Texas — Calee Carter finished with 13 kills — including the 1,000th of her career — and the White Oak Ladynecks notched a 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21 Class 3A area playoff win over the Atlanta Lady Rabbits.

Carter added nine digs to her big night, and Alli Sims had 47 assists. Addison Mcclanahan led at the net with 16 kills, adding a couple of aces. Addison Clinkscale­s finished with two aces, 10 kills and 10 digs, and Ludovica Polizzi chipped in with nine kills and four digs.

White Oak will take on Tatum in a 6:30 p.m. regional quarterfin­al match Tuesday at UT Tyler.

TENNIS TMS TAKES DOWN PLEASANT GROVE

The Texas Middle School tennis team hosted Pleasant Grove on Thursday.

The Tigers came through with a 27-3 victory over the Hawks.
