Is It The Economy?

What issue most influences your vote?

-

An old political adage would have us believe the economy is the only thing that matters to most voters.

“People vote with their wallets,” or “It’s the economy, stupid,” are the words we hear over and over.

And to a certain extent it’s true. Our financial situation plays a big role in how we decide what’s best for our nation’s — and our own — future.

But there are other factors. Faith, for example. Religious views play a big role in some voters’ ballot box choices. So do a wide variety of social issues — both support and opposition.

With the Iowa GOP Caucus kicking off the presidential primary season next week, we want to know what you think. Is your financial situation the most important factor in determining your vote? Or are there others issues you consider more important?

Send your response (50 words maximum) to opinion@texarkanagazette.com by Wednesday, January 17. You can also mail your response to the Texarkana Gazette Friday Poll, at P.O. Box 621, Texarkana, TX 75504 or drop it off at our office, 101 E. Broad St, Texarkana, Ark. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number. We will print as many responses as we can in next Friday’s paper.

Last Week: How Much is Too Much?

Last week’s question was about rising concerns Americans are spending too much time on social media. Are you concerned about the amount of time you spend on social media? Are you planning on cutting back?

I don’t waste my time on social media. I find people who allow unknown people to dictate their opinions on them, as sad. Especially, for young folks that are the most vulnerable with social media. Unknown “friends are not your “friends.” — R.K., Texarkana, Texas

I set myself a 55 min/day limit. Most days, I don’t question it, just obey it. No social media since Christmas when I got my new phone. I just haven’t logged in. Nothing catastrophic has happened. We need to control our screen time, not the other way around. Give your self a rest. — T.L., Texarkana, Arkansas
