‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ returns with a new crop of singles

- By Caroline Collacutt

Rural romance: Called the most successful dating show in the world — airing in 32 countries and resulting in 201 marriages and 514 children … and counting — the American iteration of this successful setup returns with more drama, heartbreak and a whole lot of cows, as Season 2 of “Farmer Wants a Wife” premieres Thursday, Feb. 1, on Fox.

As citizens migrate from city centers to suburbia and from suburbia to rural life, love has taken root, driving down the dusty backroads of the American countryside in search of the perfect match. Hosted by superstar entertainer and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (“Harriet,” 2019), this series follows four farmers as they harvest a little happiness and search for a ranch-ready partner.

Based on a British format developed by the minds behind “American Idol,” Fremantle, and on a U.s.-based adaptation of the series that previously aired on The CW, “Farmer Wants a Wife” joins these country-loving singles as they are presented with women from the big city — one of whom they will ideally choose to be their future spouse.

With a fresh crop of singles to boot, this season’s “country boys” range in age from 23 to 42, hailing from four different states: Mitchell Kolinsky, 27, a first-generation farmer who purchased land to pursue his dreams in Mount Juliet, tennessee; Brandon Rogers, 29, a potato and barley farmer, and the most remote single this season, living in Center, Colorado; Ty Ferrell, 42, a single father and cattle roper from Sikeston, Missouri; and Nathan Smothers, 23, a citrus and cattle farmer living in Bartow, Florida.

With more eager singles and a whole lot of country to explore, an all-new season of “Farmer Wants a Wife” premieres Thursday, Feb. 1, on Fox.
