Leopard baseball pounds Texas High

TEXARKANA, Texas — Liberty-eylau got a strong pitching performanc­e from W.T. Jones and Collin Evans drove in a pair of runs with two hits as the Leopards beat the host Tigers, 10-1, Friday in the Texas High Classic baseball event.

Jones allowed only one run and 5 hits over his 5 innings on the mound. He struck out 2 and walked 2. Triston Berry pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Leopards (7-3) outhit Texas High, 6-5. Evans was 2-for-4 with a double. Teammate Britain Pipes also knocked in 2 runs and had a single, Jones added a single and scored two runs and Triston Haugh scored twice.

Gabe Jarvis belted a double and Dylan Nabors a single and an RBI.

“We got a good pitching performanc­e from WT Jones,” said Liberty-eylau coach Zach Fowler. “We played really good defense and we were able to put some timely hits together.”

The Leopards posted two impressive wins on Thursday, beating Hooks, 15-0, and Class 5A Longview, 12-3.

“We feel like we are improving and we want to continue to push to get better each game and practice,” coach Fowler said.

The Tigers (4-3) were paced by lead off batter, Jacob Yowell, who had 2 hits. Kam Wrightner, Tanner Ross and Lane Smith added singles, with Texas High scoring its run on Wrightner’s sacrifice.

Chandler Williamson took the pitching loss, giving up 10 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits over 3 innings.

There are two games scheduled today, with Hooks facing Longview at 11 a.m. and L-E vs. Atlanta at 1 p.m.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and then fought off Ashdown, 10-9, in Thursday action.

Atlanta defeated Longview, 15-3, on Thursday. The Rabbits exploded for 10 insurance runs in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 12 runs.

Eli Mitchell, who went 3-for-4, batted in a game-high three hits, including one of the two Rabbits’ triples on the day along with Jaden Riley. Evan Mitchell, Riley and Peyton Harrison all contribute­d two hits each, with Harrison leading all batters with three RBIS.

Atlanta’s Will Woodruff pitched a complete game, striking out four and walking only two batters in six innings.
