Texas High softball hosts MP for fourth place

- RICK THOMAS

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas High has a chance to clinch fourth place in the District 15-5A softball standings today, but the Lady Tigers must beat second-place Mount Pleasant to clinch it.

Texas High (19-11-1, 8-5) will host Mount Pleasant (21-10-1, 10-3) in the finale district game of the regular season for both teams. Gametime is 6 p.m. at Lady Tiger Field.

Mount Pleasant, which shared second place with Hallsville (103), defeated Texas High, 5-1, in the first round of league play at Mount Pleasant.

The Lady Tigers hold a one-game lead over Pine Tree (7-6), which stunned homestanding Mount Pleasant, 5-4 on Tuesday. If Texas High loses and Pine Tree wins, the two teams would tie for fourth place, probably forcing a one-game playoff for the league’s last playoff spot.

Pine Tree’s final game will be at home against city rival Longview (3-10) today.

District 15-5A champion Whitehouse has already captured the district title.

CLASS 3A PLAYOFFS

District 14-3A’s four softball playoff teams have determined their opponents for the bi-district round next week.

Champion Queen City (20-2, 120) will face Quitman; second-place Hooks (22-5-1, 10-2) will battle Winnsboro, third-place Atlanta (23-8, 7-5) will tangle with Mount Vernon and fourth-place Redwater (12-17, 6-6) will collide with Mineola.

Sites and game times will be determined in the next few days.

BASEBALL TIGERS HOST MOUNT PLEASANT

The two teams who share third place in district, will collide at 7 tonight at Tiger Field.

Texas High (13-8) and Mount Pleasant (16-8) are both 7-4 in league play. Whitehouse and Hallsville share the lead at 9-2 with three games left to be played. The Tigers are the only team to beat No. 4 Whitehouse twice this season.

Texas High defeated Mount Pleasant, 9-3, in the two teams first district meeting in Mount Pleasant.
