Former teacher charged with sexual assault has court date
TEXARKANA, Texas — A former Liberty-eylau Middle School teacher charged with sexual assault of a child for an alleged improper relationship with a student, has a court date set for May 20.
Kaija Javee Muldrew, 26, is also charged with indecency with a child and improper relationship between an educator and student, according to Bowie County jail records. She was arrested April 5 by the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Bowie County Correctional Center.
Muldrew was released April 8 after posting bond on a total of $225,000 in bail, according to jail records.
On Monday, Muldrew appeared before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell with attorney Shorty Barrett, who was standing in for her attorney Josh Potter, according to court records. The case was reset for 1 p.m. May 20 at Bi-state.
Texarkana Texas Police Department was contacted in March by a Liberty-eylau Independent School District police officer and advised of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a student and educator. A student had shown a video of a 14-year-old male student with his head lying in Muldrew’s lap in the backseat of a car, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Detective Cliff Harris contacted the alleged victim’s father, and he agreed to take the boy to the Children’s Advocacy Center for an interview March 26, according to the affidavit.
On March 22, Muldrew showed up at Bi-state Justice Building unannounced, according to the affidavit. Harris placed her in an interview room for a noncustodial interview.
Muldrew allegedly told Harris she had been a teacher at LEISD since July 2023 and the teenager was a student in her reading class. Muldrew had contacted the victim through Instagram in fall 2023 and they talked on the phone, according to the af-
fidavit. The sexual contact happened in Muldrew’s car outside a business on Kings Highway, according to the affidavit.
TTPD turned the case over to the Sheriff’s Office after learning the alleged crimes took place outside the city limits.
Muldrew is no longer employed with the school district.
