New Health Center will continue St. Michael’s legacy of creating more jobs in Texarkana

-

A community leader in the Arklatex region, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System has been providing world-class health care for more than 100 years, with hospital campuses in both Texarkana and Atlanta, 15 clinics, and more than 2,000 associates. And the capacity to care and serve is growing. Building on the more than a century of care, CHRISTUS St. Michael will soon be opening their newest facility, the CHRISTUS Emergency Center, which highlights a more than $17 million investment and will feature around the clock, seven-days-aweek emergency services, including 12 treatment rooms, state-of-the-art full-service imaging and onsite laboratory services for easy access to test results. The 12,000 square-foot facility is located at 4250 Gibson Lane in Texarkana and is expected to open in late July.

“We have had a focus for some time now to do all we can to increase our capacity to serve patients,” said Jason Adams, president of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health

System, “Our new emergency center is a direct reflection of our commitment to the communities we are blessed to serve.”

The emergency center will provide nearly 40 health care jobs for the medical community and will be staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses who specialize in serving the emergent needs of patients suffering from minor illnesses, urgent health conditions, broken bones or more serious injury and illness.

The investment for the CHRISTUS Emergency Center coincides with an additional $60 million investment over the past three years for service line development, which included capital expenditures for surgical, heart, orthopedic and mother/baby services.

A fully remodeled and expanded infusion center for treatments involving intravenous therapy was also recently completed

CHRISTUS St. Michael also recently upgraded to health records software, EPIC, ensuring that all providers within the CHRISTUS system have real-time access to patient records, regardless of location.

“We are fully committed to providing high-quality care to our communities as we have been for over a century,” Adams said. “CHRISTUS is willing to put the resources where they are needed in our communities, and as a result, we can continue to expand and grow our capabilities.”

CHRISTUS St. Michael has earned national recognition from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, became one of just 15 organizations across the country to earn the MAP Award for the Healthcare Financial Management Association and was recently named the Large Employer of the Year by Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas. CHRISTUS St. Michael also became one of the first hospitals in the state to install Nicview cameras in their neonatal intensive care unit. This new technology allows parents, family and friends around-the-clock, real-time video access to infants in the NICU via a secure online portal.

“Generations of people have put their trust in CHRISTUS St. Michael to take care of this community, and that trust is sacred to every person across our ministry,” Adams said. “As the health care needs of this region grow, we are expanding our services and capacity to ensure area residents have access to the high-quality, faith-based care they have come to expect and deserve.”
