All Those Miles! Program to celebrate 25 years of walks along the historic canal

To celebrate the 25th anniversar­y of their annual Canal Walk from baston to Bristol, the Friends of the Delaware Canal will host “All Those Miles,” a narrated program featuring photograph­s of the Canal and its walkers taken since 1V87.

The program will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Feinstone Conference Center at the David Library of the American Revolution, 1201 River Road, Washington Crossing.

In June of 1V87, Will Rivinus, a local historian and author of Guide to the Delaware Canal, was inspired to lead a group on a tour of the entire length of the Delaware Canal. The towpath route was divided into roughly 12-mile segments DnG unGHUWDNHn RvHU fivH successive Saturdays. The fiUVW CDnDl :DlN wDV D KLW, and the Friends of the Delaware Canal have conducted one every year since then, HvHn wKHn flRRGV IRLlHG WKH full 58.V-mile goal. More than 1000 people have participat­ed in the walk since its inception.

“All Those Miles” will illustrate how much and how little the Delaware Canal has changed over the years. Its scenic beauty is still very much in evidence, but gone are the earthen towpath and rustic facilities. The pro- gram also will showcase the adventures and encounters that the Canal Walkers have had.
