-

NEWTOWN - At its September dinner meeting, the Piazza Nuova Lodge honored Brazilian student Marina Parro as the first scholarship recipient of the Piazza Nuova Lodge Italian Language Studies Endowment established at Bucks County Community College.

Marina was born and raised in Brazil and is pursuing an associate degree in engineering at the College. Her goal is to transfer to Penn State rniversity to attain a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering. She is from a country that has the world’s largest rainforest in the world, and she considers that it is one of her obligations to preserve the Amazon rainforest for the next generation as well as to protect the environment that we inhabit.

Marina comes from a family with Italian and Spanish heritage. Her mother’s family emigrated from Spain to Brazil and her father’s family is from Italy. Marina’s mom Rosario Parro who resides in Brazil was also a guest at the dinner meeting.

Following the scholarship award presentation the Lodge enjoyed a performance by actress Linda Kenyon who brought to life one of America’s most beloved First Ladies, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt.

Kenyon portrayed Mrs. Roosevelt’s evolution from an uncertain young bride to an American woman of strong opinions and towering influence; her voice, gestures, warmth and engaging personal touches of Eleanor Roosevelt brought this once charismatic personality to life.

The Piazza Nuova Lodge promotes fraternity amongst members, and extends that fraternity to the community at large. It also works to preserve the rich cultural heritage left by its ancestors.
