The Advance of Bucks County

Second-quarter surge not enough to lift Indians

- By Steve Sherman

BucksLocalSports Editor Council Rock North quarterback Brandon McIlwain scored twice in the closing minutes of the first half of the Indians’ game at CB South last Friday night.

You’d think that would be enough to give the Rock the lead going into the intermission, right? You’d be wrong. In case you didn’t already know, the Titans have a phenomenal running back this year in the form of sophomore Josh Adams who ran wild in a CB South win over Rock South in the week one opener.

Adams scored four touchdowns — all in the first 18 minutes of the game — to stake the Titans to a 27-0 second-quarter lead.

For the game, Adams rushed for 250 yards on 16 carries, reaching paydirt six times on the night including twice more in the second half when the Titans outscored the Indians, 24-0, and CB South won going away 58-21.

The previous week in his varsity debut, Adams rushed for 183 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-7 victory over CR South. He now has 433 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season.

In this one, after the game delayed due to lightning, the Indians came back to contest the Titans, scoring thrice in a less-than10-minute span of the second quarter.

Freshman Brandon McIlwain got the scoring started for the Rock, reaching the end zone on a quarterback draw from eight yards out with 3:50 left in the second quarter.

Six plays after Matt Cabo recovered an onside kick, Ed Mackin cashed in on a 3-yard run with 2:35 remaining.

McIlwain drew the Indians within a touchdown, 2721, when he scored from the 19 with 2:26 left in the half.

CB South was not finished as receiver Steve Veal caught a 5-yard TD pass from CB South QB John Pileggi, putting the Titans up by 13 at the half.

CB South reached paydirt three times in the third quarter including a 50yard interception return by John Mullin that went for a touchdown and put the Titans on top, 55-21.

Placekicker Evan Stahl added an 18-yard field goal to wrap up the scoring for CB South.
