Five pins puts Pennsbury past CR South

-

the tide on gohnsonI putting the mennsbury wrestler’s shoulders to the rubber. There was one more reversal to be had in the match howeverI and it had gohnson on top when the referee slammed his hand on the mat.

“Once you get a big guy on his backI a lot of times it’s tough for those big guys to get offI” explained Silimperi. “But if they have momentum and they’re rolling aroundI it’s likeI uh-oh. Once those guys goI they go.

“Ben’s usually pretty good there but he got a little high when he was trying to go for the fall. ee got rolled back to his back; that hap- pens with the big guys a lot.”

Compared to some past seasonsI South is a young team this year just trying to get its wrestlers solid experience on the varsity mat. The eawks have a few up-and-coming grapplers doing well on the mat including henis with 1O winsI freshman Lucas Martoccio E15-5F who pinned mennsbury’s oeid eickman in the 145-pound match and freshman Dylan SchwartzI who lost a close bout with Clarke at 1PU.

“ee’s a competitor and he loves to compete; he’s going to be successfulI” said SilimperiI of Schwartz.

“eis leg defense got away from him tonightI” said “That’s usually where he’s real good but he made some mistakes and it cost him.”

SilimperiI South is also battling injuries on several fronts.

“We have a couple starters out – guys sick and banged up; that’s what happens in ganuary with wrestlers.

“We have to weather the VWRUP KHUH, JHW KHDOWKy, fix our technical mistakes and wH’UH JRLnJ WR bH MuVW finH.”

For Silimperi and his dolden eawksI it’s all about the postseason. Last yearI South took second place in District One behind Norristown and sent a half-dozen of its mat warriors on to regionals. Four of those guys have graduated howeverI so it will be interesting to see if the eawks repeat the feat in the current campaign.

South drops to S-OI overallI O-1 in the SOL National Conference while the Falcons advance to 10-OI O-0 in the SOL.
