Pennsbury rebounds with win at Neshaminy

BucksLocal­Sports Editor After suffering a lopsided loss to Abington on Jan. 11, Pennsbury rebounded last week with a pair of wins in SOL National Conference action, outpacing Neshaminy Jan. 15 at home and getting past Bensalem, 36-31, last Friday on the Owls’ home court.

The Falcons also dropped a non-league battle over the weekend, 67-44, at CB West, bringing their record to 9-4, overall, 7-1 in the SOL National division. Kaitlin Kelly paced Pennsbury with 19 points and Taylor Ferguson added nine.

Sajanna Bethea led the way with 18 points versus the Redskins and Kelly added 11.

McKenna Mullin led Neshaminy with 17 points while Sarah Oliveira and Megan Schafer chipped in with 11, apiece.

While the Redskins

re- bounded Dec. 18 with a lopsided win over Truman in Langhorne, they traveled to Bensalem on Saturday and lost to non-league Souderton, 38-31, in the Suburban One Basketball Challenge.

No player from Neshaminy reached double digits in the game while Allison Gallagher led the lady Indians with 13 points and Bianca Picard had nine. Sarah Derstein also chipped in with 8 points.

Also on Saturday, less than 24 hours after Truman lost to Neshaminy, 60-18, the Tigers took the court to do battle with Upper Moreland. This time, Khristaija­h Jackson (sprained foot) and Taylor Gasperi (illness) were back in the lineup. What a difference the duo made, combining for 35 points in a 57-47 win over the Golden Bears.

Jackson led all scorers with 22 points while Gasperi added 13 and Shappelle Brewton had for Truman.

Meanwhile, Courtney Brown had the hot hand for Council Rock South Saturday at Wissahicko­n. The Golden Hawks forward connected on four threepoint­ers and scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to seal a 47-34 win for Rock South.

The Hawks have now won four straight including last Sunday’s 45-37 win over non-league Hill School. South pushed its record to 7-6 overall last weekend but more importantl­y, turned its season around with recent wins over sister school CR North and SOL National rival Abington, which tagged WKH HDwNs wLWK WKHLU fiUsW ORss RI WKH sHDsRN WKH fiUsW time the sides met in December.

This time around, CR South led the whole way, pulling ahead with a 16-7 run in the third quarter and winning 53-44 Jan. 17 in Abington. Alexis Hofstaedte­r led the way with 17

points points including six in the third period. Cara Barlow and Taylor Dillon chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respective­ly. Brown (8 pts.) and Shannon Boyle (7) alos contribute­d.

The Hawks also registered a 38-37 win Jan. 15 at home over North. Ahead 36-23 after three periods, the Hawks held on as the Lady Indians came roaring back with a 15-3 run in the fiNDO IUDPH.

Hofstaedte­r (13 pts.), Dillon (9) and Barlow (8) paced South though Boyle hit the winning bucket on a free throw with 21 seconds left.
