Truck strikes tree, plunges into THE RIVER AND EXPLODES IN FLAMES
YARDLEY BOROUGH –A Dodge pickup truck slammed into a tree, careened down an embankment and exploded into flames on the icy Delaware River early Sunday morning.
Rescue officials at the scene said the driver of the pickup managed to free himself from the vehicle, climbed up the embankment and was transported to the hospital by the Yardley-Makefield Emergency Unit.
Firefighters from the YardleyMakefield Fire Company were dispatched to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. for a marine rescue in the area of 61 korth Delaware Avenue.
Rescue 0 arrived on location and its crew went in service with a hose line and extinguished the bulk of the fire. Special Service 0 and its crew launched a marine unit to help extinguish the hotspots on the icy river.
Crews from Rescue 80 assisted with extinguishment and water from its tank was used to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
Yardley-Makefield Fire Company Fire Chief Glenn Chamberlain, Deputy Fire Chief Bubba Schlosser, Assistant Fire Chief Tim Chamberlain, and Captain Larry kewman were also on location.
Yardley-Makefield Fire Company Fire Police conducted traffic control operations throughout the incident.
The Yardley Borough Police Department is investigating the accident. alarm at Christine’s Restaurant on Oxford Valley Road.
Jan. 27 - Dispatched for three calls. The first call was for a marine rescue on korth Delaware Avenue, where a car had hit a tree and went down the embankment and landed in the icy water and burst into flames. The second call was for a fire investigation on tinthrop Drive, in the Yardley Hunt development. The third call was for an activated fire alarm at a home on tindsor Road, near Jervue Drive.
