– It was a short ride for the Sub­ur­ban One ieague ESOi) Na­tion­alLBi­cen­ten­nial all-star team in the 2013 Phillies Car­pen­ter Cup base­ball tour­na­ment which kicked off Mon­day, June 1T at FDo Park in South Philadel­phia.

SOi Na­tion­alLBi­cen­ten­nial opened the tour­na­ment bright and early Mon­day morn­ing with a 16-8 loss to South Jersey ri­val Olympic Colo­nial, which banged out 14 hits in the game. Wil­liam Ten­nent ju­nior sin­nie Case E2-for-3) led the SOi Na­tion­alLBAi with a dou­ble, a home run, three oBI and a pair of runs scored.

Abing­ton se­nior Trey Guaglionona E2-for-3) and Devon Prep sopho­more Sean Phe­lan E2-for-2) also reg­is­tered a pair of hits for the SOi Na­tion­alLBi­cen­ten­nial.

Coun­cil oock North ju­nior Tyler Cal­len­der smacked one over the fence at oichie Ash­burn Field and Bris­tol ju­nior Dy­lan bvert got a hit in one of his two at­bats as did New Hope-Sole­bury ju­nior Jake ses­ling.

Catcher Jon Gon­za­lez EWinslow Twp.) paced Olympic Colo­nial, go­ing 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four oBI. Steve Pri­olo Ebastern) was the pitcher of record for the win­ners, giv­ing up a lone run on one hit while strik­ing out two and walk­ing none in two in­nings on the mound.

Penns­bury se­nior Bran­don Gar­rett took the loss af­ter giv­ing up four runs on three hits while strik­ing out two and walk­ing one in two in­nings of work.

Coun­cil oock South se­nior oyan Flem­ing gave up two runs on three hits in two in­nings pitched. Cal­vary Chris­tian se­nior Tyler Scheuer, of New­town, sur­ren­dered six runs on five hits in 2L3 of an in­ning on the mound.

Co South ju­nior Greg Paprocki pitched a score­less in­ning and Holy Ghost Prep sopho­more Tim Bren­nan tossed a hit­less one while giv­ing up an un­earned run on a pair of er­rors by the SOi National in­field­ers. SOi Na­tion­alLBi­cen­ten­nial com­mit­ted nine er­rors in the game.

SOi NationalL BAi also lost its open­ing Car­pen­ter Cup game last year, fall­ing 9-8 to Ch­ester which reg­is­tered four runs in the bot­tom of the ninth in­ning to win in a walkoff.

In other Car­pen­ter Cup ac­tion, the SOi Amer­i­can & Con­ti­nen­tal de­feated the Philadel­phia Catholic ieague, 8-3, and iehigh sal­ley ousted Delaware South, 11-3.

Us­ing a sin­gle-elim­i­na­tion for­mat, the 28th an­nual tour­na­ment con­tin­ues June 21 at Ash­burn Field with the tour­na­ment semi­fi­nals and fi­nals tak­ing place June 24 and 25 at Cit­i­zen’s Bank Park.

OlympicLColo­nial has now won three of its last four open­ing-round con­tests and will face iehigh sal­ley in a quar­ter­fi­nal matchup June 21 back at Ash­burn Field Ere­sults not avail­able at press time).
