One string ends and another continues in Falls win

– If all good things must come to an end – and they do – then Yardley Morrisvill­e’s win streak in Lower Bucks American Legion (LBAL) play culminated with the team’s June 25 loss to Falls Post 834.

“I was just trying to re- deem myself, make sure I got the runner in,” said DeMarchis, an incoming senior at Pennsbury. “That did the job.”

With Goldberg struggling with his control – he walked a pair of batters in the fourth and the sixth innings and hit IRuU EDWsPDn Ln fiYH DnG 1/3 frames on the hill – Falls had multiple chances to take the lead in the late innings of the duel at Pennsbury.

Each time, Yardley got the outs it needed to keep the score deadlocked at two runs, each. The DirtEDJs sWUDnGHG fiYH UunnHUs Ln WKH IRuUWK, fiIWK DnG sLxWK innings, combined. DeMarchis struck out with Jen- sen on board with a single. Post 834 third baseman Shane Monohan also started that inning off with a hit – a single – but was nailed trying to steal a base by YM catcher Kyle Marshall.

Finally in the bottom of the seventh, Monohan led the inning off with a double WR OHIW fiHOG. )LUsW EDsHPDn Beau Fleming followed with a walk and pitcher Scott Jensen bunted his way on to load the sacks.

Facing reliever Randy Esling, who came on in the sixth with a pair of runners on and one out and put out WKDW fiUH, DH0DUFKLs GLG WKH smart thing and just tried to get the runner home.

“I was focused more on staying back on the ball not getting out ahead of it and trying to crush it,” said DeMarchis. “I was just trying to meet the ball where it’s pitched.”

He did and thus ending a nine-game win string for Yardley Morrisvill­e, a tear that extended all the way back to June 4 when it defeated Lower SouthampWR­n 9-4 Rn LWs KRPH fiHOG DW Cairn University.

“We knew it was going to be a close game. Goldberg is a good pitcher,” stated )DOOs LnfiHOGHU BUDnGRn GDUrett. “He was a little wild today, walking some guys and hitting some others. He had some good stuff today and kept us off-balance but fortunatel­y, we got the win.”

Ironically, the last team to beat Yardley Morrisvill­e was Falls in yet another 3-2 victory for Post 834 on June 2 at Pennsbury. The last time – and its only loss in LBAL action – Post 834 lost a league game was June 9 when Newtown Post 440 got past the Dirtbags by an 8-4 score.

Now it appears Falls is the team with the current win string. Post 834 grabbed both ends of a doublehead­er with Western June 23 at Pennsbury. In game one, the ‘bags took advantage of Post 317 starter Matt Graham, scoring 11 runs on 21 hits, including six hits for extra bases.

“We knew we had to win ERWh WR sWDy Ln firsW SODFe,” sDLG De0DrFhLs. “7he firsW game, we took it easy and the second game, it came down to the wire. We came out on top – did the job and e[eFuWeG.”
