Electric contract extension approved
The Lower dwynedd Board of Supervisors approved an electric contract extension at its Sept. 2R meeting.
The contract with Constellation Energy was set to expire at the end of the year, leading the board to agree to a plan of 36 months for a general service account that will provide electricity to all township-owned buildings. It also agreed to a 49-month deal for electricity for the township’s street lights.
According to Township Assistant Manager Craig McAnally, in 2010, PECO lifted the rate cap on electric distribution charges and the township went with Constellation’s lowest bid. The original choice for a contract was to go 12, 24 or 36 months, and the township decided to sign a 24-month contract.
The township currently pays 8 cents per kilowatt hour for general services.
In other business, Township Manager Larry Comunale announced that an I Like the Pike video will be shot for the web.
Starring board sice Chairwoman hathleen Hunsicker, the video will showcase Bethlehem Pike and promote the I Like the Pike marketing initiative, which looks to generate business along the Bethlehem Pike corridor in Lower dwynedd. The video will be posted online on Ilikethepike.com.
Comunale also announced that SEPTA and the township have been negotiating a right-of-entry agreement for the section of the Penllyn Pike walking trail that goes underneath the railroad tracks and across the Penllyn train station that requires the township to stripe the sidewalk and parking lot so pedestrians who want to get to the dreen Ribbon Trail can do so through the Penllyn station.
Comunale said there were some lastminute negotiations, one of which involved insurance, that needed to be taken care of, but said he hopes the issue will be ready by the Oct. 9 meeting.
