Betty Strom Melville, 83, formerly of Roslyn, Pa., went to be with her LRUG DnG 6DviRU Rn 6DWurday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Nottingham sillage, Northumber­land, Pa., where she had lived since August 2005.

She was born Betty Jean Strom on May 7, 1929, in Greenwood, S.C., and was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas E. Strom and WKH ODWH LuOD BDOODnWinH (Smiley) Strom. Her family moved to hingstree, S.C., where Betty spent much of her youth. She attended the rniversity of South Carolina.

Betty was employed for more than 30 years at various businesses in administra­tive and accounting positions. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Betty spent much time volunteeri­ng at the election polls, her church, WKH 5RVOyn )UHH LiEUDUy and Meals on Wheels. Betty was elected multiple times to the Board of Commission­ers of Abington Township where she served for 16 years. On Jan. 11, 1996, she was KRnRUHG wiWK D &HUWifiFDWH of Special Congressio­nal Recognitio­n from the members of the rnited States Congress for her outstandin­g and invaluable service to her community.

She is survived by one son, William B. Melville Jr. and his wife, Diane Grace Melville, of Schwenksvi­lle, Pa.; one daughter, Elizabeth Melville Magill and her husband, John T. Magill III, 0D, RI LHwiVEuUJ, 3D.; fivH JUDnGFKiOG­UHn, &KUiVtopher T. Melville, Daniel S. Melville, Amy Magill Davis, Peter W. Magill and Thomas M. Magill; one grandson-in-law, Thaddeus A. Davis; three greatgrand­children, Anaya C. Davis, Jeremiah C. Davis DnG LiDnD 0. DDviV; RnH sister, Margaret S. Moody of Greenville, S.C.; and fivH niHFHV, DORnJ wiWK their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine S. Brice; a brother-in-law, Boyce S. Brice, MD; and a niece, Mary-Jo B. Wittmeier.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Reformed Church of Willow Grove, 1400 North Hills Ave., Willow Grove, PA 19090.

Burial will be at the convenienc­e of the family.
