Betty Strom Melville, 83, for­merly of Roslyn, Pa., went to be with her LRUG DnG 6DviRU Rn 6DWur­day, Oct. 6, 2012, at Not­ting­ham sil­lage, Northum­ber­land, Pa., where she had lived since Au­gust 2005.

She was born Betty Jean Strom on May 7, 1929, in Greenwood, S.C., and was the el­dest daugh­ter of the late Thomas E. Strom and WKH ODWH LuOD BDOODnWinH (Smi­ley) Strom. Her fam­ily moved to hingstree, S.C., where Betty spent much of her youth. She at­tended the rniver­sity of South Carolina.

Betty was em­ployed for more than 30 years at var­i­ous busi­nesses in ad­min­is­tra­tive and ac­count­ing po­si­tions. She es­pe­cially en­joyed spend­ing time with her fam­ily and friends. Betty spent much time vol­un­teer­ing at the elec­tion polls, her church, WKH 5RVOyn )UHH LiEUDUy and Meals on Wheels. Betty was elected mul­ti­ple times to the Board of Com­mis­sion­ers of Abing­ton Town­ship where she served for 16 years. On Jan. 11, 1996, she was KRnRUHG wiWK D &HUWi­fiFDWH of Spe­cial Con­gres­sional Recog­ni­tion from the mem­bers of the rnited States Congress for her out­stand­ing and in­valu­able ser­vice to her community.

She is sur­vived by one son, Wil­liam B. Melville Jr. and his wife, Diane Grace Melville, of Sch­wenksville, Pa.; one daugh­ter, El­iz­a­beth Melville Mag­ill and her hus­band, John T. Mag­ill III, 0D, RI LHwiVEuUJ, 3D.; fivH JUDnGFKiOGUHn, &KUiV­to­pher T. Melville, Daniel S. Melville, Amy Mag­ill Davis, Peter W. Mag­ill and Thomas M. Mag­ill; one grand­son-in-law, Thad­deus A. Davis; three great­grand­chil­dren, Anaya C. Davis, Jeremiah C. Davis DnG LiDnD 0. DDviV; RnH sis­ter, Mar­garet S. Moody of Greenville, S.C.; and fivH niHFHV, DORnJ wiWK their fam­i­lies.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, she was pre­ceded in death by a sis­ter, Max­ine S. Brice; a brother-in-law, Boyce S. Brice, MD; and a niece, Mary-Jo B. Wittmeier.

A memo­rial ser­vice to cel­e­brate Betty’s life will be held at noon on Satur­day, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Re­formed Church of Wil­low Grove, 1400 North Hills Ave., Wil­low Grove, PA 19090.

Burial will be at the con­ve­nience of the fam­ily.
