Owen W. Rowland
Owen W. Rowland, age 90, a resident of Towamencin Township for the past 53 years, died Oct. 21, 2012, at Abington Hospice at Warminster. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Kossol) Rowland. The two were married in 1948 and previously resided in Philadelphia and Ardsley.
Born Oct. 27, 1921, in Patton, Pa., Owen was a son of the late Richard and Minnie (Lyle) Rowland and was the youngest of six children.
In 1942, while serving with the state police, Mr. Rowland enlisted in the U.S. Navy and saw action aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Wainwright in the Atlantic and MediterUDQHDQ flHHWV. HH UHFHLYHG DQ honorable discharge in 1946.
Mr. Rowland graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1951. For more than 30 years, he was employed by United Engineers & Constructors in various capacities including project buyer, manager of equal employment opportunity, legal administrator and tax manager.
He was an active member of the Lansdale United Methodist Church and sang in its choir since 1959. He also served for several years as Cherub Choir accompanist, editor of the church newsletter and later as coordinator for Red Cross blood drives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rowland is survived by their two daughters, Kathleen Wong and her husband, Richard, of Florham Park, N.J., and Cynthia Lesitsky and her husband, Jeffrey, of Salfordville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Robert, nuentin and Vernon Rowland; and his sister, June Rowland.
An opportunity to view and greet the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, Pa. Interment will be private in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 5, 2012, at Lansdale United Methodist Church, 300 North Broad St., Lansdale.
