Robert Songer
Robert M. “Preacher” Songer passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, at the age of 74, in his hometown of Antlers. Born on April 6, 1949 to Palmer and Velma (Cummings) Songer, Robert spent his entire life in the community he so dearly loved. He was a man of deep integrity, known for his hard work and the respect he earned from all who knew him. Robert married the love of his life, Bernardette “Bernie” Axton, on March 29, 1974, in Paris, TX. Their union was blessed with years of joy, and together they raised a family that stood as the pillar of his happiness. His devotion to his family shone brightly through every aspect of his life. A dedicated worker, Robert retired from Weyerhaeuser after 28 years of committed service. His professional life was as sturdy and steadfast as his character. He was well-regarded by his coworkers and formed many lasting friendships throughout his career. Outside of work, Robert’s passions were as vast as the Oklahoma plains he so cherished. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in hunting, fishing for catfish, welding and taking his grandchildren on cherished buggy rides. His life on the farm, tending to his cows and farming the land, was a source of great contentment. His skill in playing pool and being an exceptional pawpaw were unmatched and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren—Morgan Scaff, Logan Quiring, Conner Songer, and great grandchildren Adilynn Long, Finlee Long, and Nash Long—and other relatives and friends who had the pleasure of experiencing life’s journey with him. His legacy is carried on by his beloved wife Bernie Songer, his son Conrad Songer, his sister Martha Ann Lankford, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the numerous other relatives and friends who were blessed by his presence. Robert’s life was a testament to the simple, enduring values of love, labor, and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Palmer and Velma Songer, daughter Andrea Songer, sister Elaine Miller, and brothers Harry Dean Songer and Vernon Harris.
