"Peggy" 80, of Phoenix, AZ, died Monday, December 17, 2012. She was born in Chicago, IL on October 21, 1932 to Lewis Holmes Mahoney and Margaret Compton Campbell Mahoney. Peggy was raised in Plainfield, IL and Hot Springs National Park, AR. Peggy graduated from University of Arkansas in 1954. She was married to Harry Scott Oakes in 1955. They lived in the Panama Canal Zone, Waukegan, IL, Shaker Heights, OH, and Port Washington, NY before moving to Phoenix in 1975. Peggy worked for many years as a Career Counselor at Central High School in Phoenix. She was a teacher, a spiritual guide, and had a wicked sense of humor. Peggy is survived by her husband, Harry Scott Oakes, daughters Margaret Compton Oakes (Margaret Agnes) of Amherst, MA, and Katherine Girault Oakes Hofland (Jay), of Phoenix, AZ, as well as three adored grandchild­ren, James Oakes Hofland, Katherine Cordelia Hofland, and Harry Holmes Oakes-Kroeplin, a brother, Lewis Augustus Mahoney (Dolores), four nephews, and many dear friends.
