You people get the prize of giving to Season for Sharing

Today’s question: My husband and I were recently discussing antlers. He said antlers fall off every year. I disagreed. Otherwise, how could the antlers get so big? Can you tell him I am right? When your loyal readers are right, shouldn’t we get some kind of prize?

We’ll get to your prize in a minute, but let’s deal with this antler thing first.

Your husband is right. Deer shed their antlers every year when they don’t need them to whomp on other deer during the mating season. Why would you carry all that weight around if you don’t have a use for it?

And the older a stag gets, the larger its antlers grow back, just like your husband’s ear hair.

Do you get a prize for being right? No, but you get a prize for asking: You get to donate to the Valley 101 Goober-Be-Gone arm of

Season for Sharing campaign, which over the years has raised millions of dollars, and turned each penny over to local agencies that help our friends and neighbors who are lonely, hungry or otherwise hurting.

This is why I say your reward is that you “get” to give: When I was a kid, we used to ask our mother, “Do we have to go to Sunday school?” She answered, “You don’t have to go. You get to go.”

Republic,
