Temple ruins are rooted in history
“My family and I visited Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in June. The park is home to magnificent temple ruins, including the legendary Angkor Wat, built from the ninth through the 15th centuries during the time of the Khmer Empire, which stretched across much of what is southeast Asia today. “This picture was taken at Ta Prohm temple, where the movie ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,’ starring Angelina Jolie, was shot. It is overgrown with trees, vines and roots. A deliberate attempt was made to maintain the structure in its natural state by limiting cutting of the dense jungle. As a result, the ruins are laced with the enormous roots and vines of the strangler-fig trees in the background.”
