Another bang-up holiday on Strip

Las Vegas’ official New Year’s Eve celebratio­n will encompass the famed annual fireworks show on the Strip and live entertainm­ent at Fremont Street Experience downtown.

The Strip fireworks will be launched from seven rooftop locations: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, Venetian and Stratosphe­re. The Downtown Countdown party is 6 p.m.3 a.m. and features live performanc­es by Buckcherry and Queensrych­e. Tickets are $30 until Friday, Dec. 28, when they rise to $40. Nog: Ellis Island’s holiday eggnog is available. This is the 10th straight year that the nog has been mixed and sold at the bar at the casino. (It contains alcohol.) The price is the same as last year: $6 per glass, $29.99 per bottle.

Buffet is back: The buffet at Aria, which closed in October for a remodel, has reopened. It serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and “bottomless beverages.” Prices range is $17.95-$38.95.

Kate’s Korner kaput: Kate’s Korner, the long-time snack bar/ice-cream shop at Gold Coast, is no more. Constructi­on is under way on a Subway restaurant.

New home for “Legends”: Long-running tribute show “Legends in Concert” will have a new home at Flamingo in 2013. The show, which closes at Harrah’s on Sunday, Dec. 30, has a multiyear deal with its sister property beginning in February 2013.

Question: Is it true that the taxi drivers are on strike?

Answer: You don’t have to worry about it for the holidays. The threatened strike has been averted, at least though January, thanks to a temporary extension of the current contract.
