Farmers markets

-

Last week we asked about favorite summertime farmers markets. James Kirk of Quartzsite wrote with this recommendation:

“The past couple of summers there has been a farmers market at the Skull Valley General Store in historic Skull Valley. Locally raised meat, eggs, veggies and fruit (last summer there were wonderful plums) are sold. It was held on weekends and ran from June through September.

“Just down the street is the Skull Valley Depot Museum, which is open during summer months. It has interesting displays about the history of the area and the influence of the railroad.”

Thanks, Mr. Kirk. Readers, don’t feel bad if you don’t know where Skull Valley is. It’s a tiny community about 20 miles southwest of Prescott on Iron Springs Road, aka County Road 10. The farmers market will be open 8 a.m.-noon Fridays from June through September. Call the store at 928-442-3351, or find it on Facebook.

The museum will be open 2-4 p.m. Sundays from June through September. Groups of 10 or more can arrange private tours. Admission is free; donations are accepted.

Also in Skull Valley, the volunteer fire department is looking for photos of the Rancho Diamante area between Skull Valley and Prescott. Before-and-after photos are of particular interest. They will be used in a display to benefit the fire department, which will be happy to pay for copies — owners don’t have to turn over original photos. Call Ron or Ida Downing at 928-4422314 if you have photos. They also can answer questions about the depot museum.
