Tommy Thompson said.

The incident began earlier Saturday with a domestic-violence call involving a man and a woman on the 7000 block of West Indian School Road, Thompson said.

The man, described as despondent, had already left the area with a handgun by the time police arrived, Thompson said.

Police tracked him to an apartment complex in the 3600 block of North 67th Avenue, Thompson said.

A neighbor said he heard police implore the man to put his weapon away.

The man raised his weapon, and police fired several shots at him, Thompson said.

SCOTTSDALE — The Scottsdale Fire Department respon- ded to a collision at the intersection of Dynamite Boulevard and Pima Road in north Scottsdale at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

A truck carrying pool chemicals was overturned on the side of the road with the driver trapped in the cab. Fire crews used the Jaws of Life to pull the man from the truck and transported him to Scottsdale’s trauma center, Fire Department Capt. Dan Ables said.

The other driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital.

The owner of the pool company and several employees were cleaning up chlorine tablets and liquid algaecide that spilled from the truck.

There was no immediate threat to desert habitat, officials said.
