CAMPING OUT

- — Kent Somers

Camp confidential: The Cardinals gained a starting guard this week and lost another, at least for a short period of time. LG Jonathan Cooper practiced for the first time Monday after signing a four-year contract, but RG Daryn Colledge is going to miss practice time with a right-leg injury. So the regular starting offensive line won’t be together for a while. Coach Bruce Arians doesn’t seem overly concerned about that because he knows now that Colledge will be back. Chilo Rachal, a backup, played well while Cooper was out. And Paul Fanaika, who played at ASU, has impressed coaches. He’s running ahead of rookie Earl Watford and is filling Colledge’s spot. Levi Brown and Bobby Massie continue to run with the first team at the tackle spots. But Nate Potter is pushing Brown, and Eric Winston is making a positive impression behind Massie.

Quotable: “I feel like I’m getting more coaching this year than I’ve gotten in my last eight, nine years in the league.” — DE Darnell Dockett

Injury report: Colledge (right leg) has nerve damage but no broken bone. He will miss an unspecified amount of time. RB Ryan Williams (knee) missed practice. MRI revealed no damage, but Williams is getting a second opinion. TE Jeff King (knee), WR LaRon Byrd (concussion), LB Jasper Brinkley (knee), TE Alex Gottlieb (hamstring) out; TE Kory Sperry left practice with an unknown injury; LB Daryl Washington (neck) returned to practice.

Coming up: One practice today, open to the public, from 2 to 4:35 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium. Gates open by 1:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free. Parking lot opens at 12:30 p.m. There is no practice on Wednesday, and Thursday’s practice in Tempe is closed to the public.
