is getting more work at Redskins training camp.

Coach Mike Shanahan said the quarterback had about “16 or 17” snaps Wednesday during seven-on-seven drills.

That’s an increase from eight snaps the first few days and 10 snaps the next few days as Griffin works back into shape following reconstructive knee surgery.

Griffin got the extra work Wednesday even though the practice was held in steady rain on a field that’s already showing considerable wear and tear. Several other players returning from off-season injuries were given the practice off.

Shanahan noted that he’s still withholding Griffin from 11-on-11 drills. Denver: The Broncos lured Ryan Lilja out of retirement, agreeing to terms with the offensive lineman Wednesday.

The Broncos are searching for a replacement at center for Dan Koppen, who is out for the season after tearing his left ACL last weekend. Manny Ra- mirez, who took most of the snaps at center during Denver’s off-season practices, has been filling in for Koppen the last few days in training camp. NY Jets: Dee Milliner took another step toward competing for a starting job with the New York Jets.

The first-round draft pick participated in some drills Wednesday as he joined his teammates on the practice field for the first time in training camp. Milliner signed a four-year deal with the Jets on Monday after a brief holdout.

“Man, it was good,” Milliner said after practice. “To get back out here on the field, get through the drills, get back out there with the team. It felt good the whole time I was out there, just (doing) what the trainers asked me and just moving on and progressing.” Miami: WR Brian Hartline sat out practice Wednesday night, two days after appearing to suffer a minor injury in a practice drill and missing a scrimmage. Coach Joe Philbin has maintained a policy of not disclosing any information relating to injuries. Hartline worked with trainers in the early part of practice.
