is leaving the NHL and the Calgary Flames on his terms.

The veteran goalie announced his retirement on Monday after 12 NHL seasons, the last nine with the Flames — the club with which he wanted to finish his career.

The 36-year-old Kiprusoff, who began his career with the San Jose Sharks, joined the Flames in 2003 and helped lead them to the Stanley Cup Final the following year.

He made the decision to retire at the end of last season, but thought about it over the summer before making an official announceme­nt that he was “100 percent sure.”

» The Ottawa Senators and LW Colin Greening agreed to a threeyear contract extension.

The deal reached Monday will keep the 27-year-old forward away from free agency following the upcoming season. Greening will earn $2 million in the first year of the deal, $2.75 million in the 201516 season, and $3.2 million in the final year.

Greening had eight goals and 11 assists with Ottawa in the lockoutsho­rtened 2013 season.

Billionair­e Chris Hansen must pay the California Fair Political Practices Commission $50,000 for his role in a secretive effort to funnel money to a group trying to thwart Sacramento’s efforts to build a new downtown arena.

Hansen gave $100,000 to a group gathering signatures to force a vote on the city’s plan to help build a new home for the Sacramento Kings. It came just days after the NBA rejected his $625 million bid to buy the team and move it to Seattle.

» The New Orleans Pelicans say second-year SF Darius Miller had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.

Ryan Newman has been hired by Richard Childress Racing to drive the No. 31 Chevrolet next season. Newman will replace Jeff Burton, who announced last week he is leaving RCR at the end of the season.

RCR’s Monday announceme­nt of Newman’s hiring comes on the heels of Newman’s controvers­ial and temporary miss of a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
