Strong outing:

Miley allowed just three hits through the first six innings before allowing two runs in the seventh. Both Montero and manager Kirk Gibson said they thought Miley might have tired after going 2 for 3 and running the bases.

“It wasn’t too bad,” Miley said. “I always said I’ll take running the bases as a pitcher.”

Miley joined Randy Johnson as the only Diamondbacks’ left-hander to win 10 games in back-to-back seasons. He’s 10-10 on the year with a 3.70 ERA. Settling in: Rookie 3B Davidson went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored and made a couple of nice defensive plays. Gibson said Davidson benefited from three days off after going 0 for 5 against the Dodgers last week.

“You know what, when he played in the Dodgers’ series it felt like the game sped up on him a bit,” Gibson said. “He had a big leg kick (at the plate). We talked to him about it and he simplified it a bit. We knew the kid could hit.” Death stare: Colorado starter Roy Oswalt pitched relatively well in his first start since coming off the disabled list — seven hits and two earned runs in 42⁄ innings — but he wasn’t happy with home-plate umpire Manny Gonzalez when he left the game.

Oswalt thought Gonzalez squeezed him on two pitches to Paul Goldschmidt, including a 3-2 curve that was called for a ball to load the bases. Oswalt threw up his arms in disgust, walked forward and had a few words for Gonzalez. Manager Walt Weiss then went to the mound to get Oswalt, who stared down Gonzalez as he headed to the dugout. Red hot: Montero had three hits for the second consecutive game and reached base safely in eight consecutive plate appearances, one short of tying a franchise record held by Mark Reynolds (2007) and Raul Mondesi (2003). View from the press box: Thanks to a couple strong promotions, the Diamondbacks have been able to draw a combined crowd of 63,950 over the first two games of the series against the Rockies, even with the playoffs out of the question. The Saturday crowd of 32,237 was especially impressive, given ASU’s big night game against Wisconsin was happening just miles away in Tempe. Never underestimate the draw of a Montero bobblehead.
