Scorpions in homes looking to escape cooler temps

-

We answered a pile of new questions last week.

Some of the discoveries: Prescott Valley will be getting a Sprouts Farmers Market next year; the next 12 News Shred-A-Thon will be Friday at six locations throughout the state; why some Valley residents plant a winter lawn; and an update on the Sun Devil Stadium renovation, as well as more answers to your Affordable Care Act questions. Details on these questions and answers are online, so go to ask .azcentral.com.

Here is a new question: Why does it seem like there is a spike in scorpion sightings in homes during September and October? What are they looking for?

Answer: I reached out to Stuart Kee- nan of KY-KO Pest Prevention to see if he could explain.

According to Keenan, the reason for the spike in scorpion activity is the change in the weather. Scorpions don’t like the cooler temperatures, so they are in search of warmer places, like inside your home.

We love to open our windows and doors this time of year. After a long, hot summer, we’re excited to finally open our doors to enjoy the nice cool breeze. But who knew all those creepy crawlies were waiting to come in?

Keenan said the spike in scorpion activity this year seems to have come earlier than usual because the cooler temperatures happened earlier.
