TENNIS: WOZNIACKI CAPTURES LUXEMBOURG OPEN TITLE

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki won her first tournament of the year, beating German teenager Annika Beck 6-2, 6-2 in Sunday’s final of the Luxembourg Open.

Wozniacki, ranked ninth in the world, completed a confidence-building week in which she only lost one set by dominating throughout against her 19-year-old opponent.

She wrapped up the match in 1 hour, 14 minutes, leaving the 57th-ranked Beck with little more than the experience of having played in her first WTA tournament final.

» Seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov won his first ATP tour title on Sunday by beating top-seeded David Ferrer 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Stockholm Open final.

The 22-year-old Dimitrov broke the No. 3-ranked Ferrer’s serve three times to finish off the match in 2 hours, 10 minutes and defeat the Spaniard for the first time in four matches.

» Tommy Haas won his 15th career title and second of the season by defeating Robin Haase 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

The second-seeded German, won also won the event 12 years ago, maintained his slim chance of qualifying for next month’s ATP finals in London.

Stosur 7-6 (1), 6-2 in the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

The 18th-ranked Halep, who dropped only one set in four final appearance­s since winning her maiden title in Nurnberg, Germany, in June, constantly trapped Stosur in the corners and beat the former U.S. Open champion with precise crosses and shots down the line throughout the match.
