One pedestrian was killed and another was critically wounded Saturday after an accident in Glendale involving a police officer responding to a call, officials said.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon as a Glendale police officer responding to a non-emergency call was driving on 67th Avenue near Glendale Avenue, according to police.

Police said the officer was not using his emergency lights because the call was a non-emergency incident.

The collision is still under investigation, but the Police Department said the initial report is that a van made a left turn in front of the officer.

The impact sent the van onto the sidewalk on the southwestern corner of the intersection, where it struck the pedestrians.

Police said one pedestrian was thrown into a nearby parking lot and was hit by a different vehicle.

A female pedestrian was killed and a male pedestrian is critically injured, police said. The officer was not seriously injured.
