“Ultimately, you’re trying to get your group to recognize in a game that doesn’t have a lot of special teams, we should get more similar minutes,” Playfair said.

Brule signs

After deciding to sign with Mettalurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia earlier in the week, forward Gilbert Brule had a change of heart and agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes on Saturday.

“He was destined for Russia and was convinced to go,” General Manager Don Maloney said. “I know he was offered a very lucrative deal there, and we were fine if he wanted to do that or if he wanted to sign a two-way contract with us. So, obviously, he reconsidered and we’re happy to have him back.”

Brule was at Coyotes training camp on a professional tryout, and after he was cut, he joined the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Portland, Maine, on a professional tryout. There he scored six goals and added two assists in eight games.

Brule will have to clear waivers before reporting to Portland.

“He was our leading goal scorer — all the things we liked about him when he was with us a couple years ago,” Maloney said. “Because of our roster situation, we were just reluctant to put him on a one-way contract. So it works for us, good for him and hopefully I think we’ll see him up here at some point in the future. Just when that is, I can’t say.”

After a few fake Twitter accounts bearing his name appeared, the real Rob Klinkhammer has joined the social media world as @Bobbyklink.

“I just wanted to get out there and see what it was like,” he said. “I saw the fake ones. They weren’t tweeting anything bad, (not) much of anything. They were mostly retweets. I mean, whatever. It’s all in good fun.”
