Ka’Deem Carey rushed for 157 yards, but three times the star running back was stopped on fourth-and-short situations, twice in the first half. Trailing 30-7 at halftime, the Wildcats made a brief third-quarter charge, pulling to within 30-14 on an 8-yard Carey touchdown run.
Things got more interesting when Arizona forced ASU to punt, but after three first downs, Randall intercepted Denker to reverse momentum. Two possessions later, Kelly sealed the outcome, hitting Strong for a 61-yard scoring strike and a 44-21 lead.
Overall, ASU — opening in a 4-2-5 scheme for the first time this season — intercepted Denker three times. The quarterback finished 15 of 30 for 175 yards. He also rushed for 87 yards.
