SANTA ANA, Calif. — Two California police officers accused in the death of a homeless man are heading to trial more than two years after the violent confrontation.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

TORONTO — Police said Sunday that a Canadian man has been arrested for allegedly trying to sell classified information to the Chinese government about Canada’s warship building procurement strategy.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that Qing Quentin Huang, 53, of Burlington, Ontario, was arrested on Saturday and appeared in court Sunday.

RCMP Chief Supt. Jennifer Strachan said the suspect is charged with communicating with a foreign entity under the Security of Information Act.

Police said the suspect works for Lloyd Register, a ship design sub-contractor to Irving Shipbuilding.

3: Same-sex marriage nixed by voters

ZAGREB, Croatia — A majority of Croatians voted in a referendum Sunday to ban gay marriages in what is a major victory for the Catholic Church-backed conservatives in the European Union’s newest nation.

The state electoral commission, citing near complete results, said 65 percent of those who voted answered “yes” to the referendum question: “Do you agree that mar- riage is matrimony between a man and a woman?” About 34 percent voted against.

4: Morsi supporters clash with police

CAIRO — Police fired tear gas to drive hundreds of supporters of Egypt’s ousted Islamist president from Cairo’s famed Tahrir Square on Sunday, as a panel tasked with amending a constitution adopted during his time in office convened for a second day.

The 50-member assembly revising the Islamist-tilted charter adopted under former President Mohammed Morsi has been voting clause-byclause on the final draft.

When that process is completed, the document will be put to a vote in a nationwide referendum to be called by Interim President Adly Mansour.

If adopted, a giant step in the roadmap announced by the military when it removed Morsi last summer will have been completed. The next steps are parliamentary and presidential elections by the spring or early summer of 2014, according to the political blueprint.
