PV to study upgrades proposed by resort

- By Philip Haldiman

The Cottonwoods Resort & Suites on the Paradise Valley/ Scottsdale line is on the path toward redevelopment, which will bring a number of improvements to the property.

The Paradise Valley Planning Commission will hold a public meeting Tuesday to discuss a special-use permit, which will allow for the improvements.

The resort is adjacent to the Borgata along Scottsdale Road north of McDonald Drive.

Upgrades include the refurbishing of 145 of the existing 171 resort guest units and 28 new two-story residences with ac-

cess to resort amenities, as well as 15 new single-story, single-owner resort homes.

It also includes two new three-story hotel-unit buildings along the eastern property line immediately adjacent to the Borgata property in Scottsdale. Each building has 45 hotel units.

Senior planner Molly Hood said the owners, WSRH Cottonwoods LLC and WSRH Scottsdale Land LLC, are expected to submit a final, complete permit booklet with all the site plans and drawings for the Planning meeting.

Other improvements include a new lobby, check-in area and pool facilities within the loop driveway.

The permitting process for the redevelopment has been going on for more than a year now.

Lynne Lagarde, a land-use attorney for the owner, said the resort has been operating quietly and successfully for more than 30 years without any major renovations.

“It’s in need of an update to maintain a luxury resort status and remain competitive with both new and refurbished resorts in the Scottsdale-Paradise Valley market,” she said.
