Brewer thinks boss of CPS doing a ‘fine job’
Nineteen days after learning that well over 6,000 children’s cries for help went unanswered, Gov. Jan Brewer on Monday appointed an independent panel to figure out what the heck is going on over at Child Protective Services.
She used words like “absolutely inexcusable” and “never again” and the always-popular “there will be accountability.”
Then, she announced that she has confidence in the guy who runs CPS.
“My director, Clarence Carter, has done a fine job in regards to where we’re at,” she said. “The bottom line is that he is the director of DES (state Department of Economic Security); CPS reports to them. I believe personally that there has been a break in the command and we will get to the bottom of it and somebody, or people, will be held accountable. We’re not going to tolerate this. I think that we need a complete, full investigation. We need to know where all the bodies are buried, if you will, no pun intended. But we’re not going to start attacking people until we know that we’ve got a basis to do that.”
A basis? How about at least 6,550 bases, Governor? One basis for every child’s cry his — make that, — agency ignored.
Monday’s announcement marks the third investigation into last month’s bombshell disclosure that CPS decided not to investigate 6,550 reports that children were being abused or neglected.
