Police: Man shot, killed by Phoenix roommate

PHOENIX — A man was fatally shot outside his Phoenix home after he got into a fight with his roommate, authorities said Monday.

Phoenix police were called Sunday to the home near 45th Avenue and Windrose Drive, where they found William Locke, 47, unconscious and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, said James Holmes, a spokesman for Phoenix police.

Locke was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

Police seek 2 men after Scottsdale bank robbed

SCOTTSDALE — Police are searching for two men who robbed a north Scottsdale bank on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told police two men entered the BMO Harris Bank at 21911 N. Scottsdale Road, displayed guns and demanded money at about 12:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Mark Clark, a police spokesman. The men were wearing hooded sweatshirts and ski masks.

The men left in a blue vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.

At about 12:40 p.m., police received reports about a vehicle fire nearby, at Scottsdale and Deer Valley Roads, Clark said.

3 receive probation for abuse in woman’s death

PHOENIX — Two men who admitted to abuse in their mother’s death in a filthy van carrying 35 emaciated animals were each sentenced to two years of probation on Monday.

Alan Stout, 42, and Gregory Stout, 44, were sentenced after pleading guilty on charges of vulnerable-adult abuse and cruelty to animals for putting the family’s 73-year-old matriarch, Lola Stout, in circumstances that endangered her health, according to Maricopa County Superior Court.

Lola Stout’s husband, Alva Stout, received the same sentence on Thursday for the same convictions.

Police said the woman had high-blood pressure and other conditions requiring medical attention.

On July 13, police responded to a report of a sick woman near 16th Street and Buckeye Road. Authorities found Lola Stout dead inside the van surrounded by numerous kennels containing 12 dogs and 22 cats.

Police said many of the animals were in extremely poor health from malnourishment, dehydration and illness.
