Programming switched on 95.5 FM radio station

- — Staff reports

Following the elimination of the Peak 98.7 FM radio station earlier this month, Clear Channel has switched programing on 95.5 FM.

The station is now 95.5 the Mountain, rather than Rhythmic AC Eva, the company reports.

The Peak was shut off in early January as KTAR-AM (620) expanded onto its station with a duplicate broadcast of its AM program. Eleven people were laid off with the elimination of the Peak, officials said.

The simulcast of 620 AM began Jan. 6 at10 a.m., with a brief announcement beforehand on the Doug and Wolf show. Arizona Sports 620 AM and 98.7 FM are owned by Bonneville Phoenix.

Clear Channel officials wanted to fill the gap left by the Peak.

“We wanted to bring the Valley a station that is incredibly popular to the audience and works great for clients,” said Steve Geofferies, Clear Channel/Phoenix director of programming and operations.
