83, passed away February 20, 2014. He was born April 17, 1930 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the oldest of 12 children. As a young man attending school, he was an outstandin­g baseball and basketball player. He joined the Air Force in 1948. When he was discharged, he came home and married his high school sweetheart, Anita Garcia. They were married in 1954 and were happy together for 59 years. John and Anita had two daughters, Theresa and Rose Ann. John was a bricklayer for over 40 years. After retiring in 1992, he devoted himself to golf fulltime. He was a member of Par Gents for many years. He enjoyed playing in tournament­s with his golfing buddies. John loved his family. He was "Ampa" to 8 grandchild­ren and 10 great grandchild­ren and one on the way. He devoted his life to spoiling all of them. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. Even when his health failed in the past year, he looked forward to babysittin­g his great grandchild­ren. He passed away the way he lived; surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Anita; his daughters, Theresa and Rose Ann; his grandchild­ren, John, Nick, Joey, Alicia, Lee Ann, Amanda, Kaitlin, and Shelby; his great grandchild­ren; Cameron, John David, Ava, Tyla, Elliot, Max, Isabella, Josh, Domenico, Aubree and William who will be born in April. He was a wonderful father and an amazing Ampa. We love him and miss him. He will be forever in our hearts. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10:00 A.M, at Whitney Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will take place at St. Francis Cemetery.
