Vivian "Ruth" Harness, Phoenix, passed away quietly in her sleep 18 February 2014. She was 95 years and 11 months old. She was born in Washington, Daviess, Indiana on 21 March 1918 and moved to Phoenix in 1951. Ruth was "Rosie the Riveter" making 20mm shells during WW ll. While her husband was away in the war, she held three jobs to support her family. Ruth made parachutes, canning jars, microchips and circuit boards. The space ship that landed on the moon in 1969 contained a circuit board that Ruth helped to make. After a long and productive career she retired from Seimens Electronic­s of Scottsdale. Although, she worked very hard, Ruth enjoyed her spare time. She loved to dance, scrapbooki­ng, stamping, and training monkeys. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers, her loving husband, Arthur, daughter Zara and 2 grandchild­ren, Vola Ruth and Baby Merkle. She is survived by daughter Ann Atha (Denzil); son Bill J. Harness (Barbara), 10 grandchild­ren: 17 great-grandchild­ren; 12 great-greatgrand­children; 1 great-great-great-grandchild. She was a member of Monte Vista Church of the Nazarene, Moose Lodge, and The Stampers Club; the Auxiliarie­s of American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Purple Heart. The funeral service will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am and the services will be held 11 am on Monday, February 24, 2014. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85017.
