MayEllen Sadler passed away February 19, 2014. She was born MayEllen Van Buskirk in Cherokee County, Iowa on September 23, 1920. She was the fourth of seven children. Upon graduating high school she pursued the career of beautician and moved to Southern California in 1938. In addition to establishi­ng her own business there, she contribute­d to the war effort by working in the aircraft industry. She married Gordon R. Sadler, also an Iowa native, while he was serving in the Army in 1943. The couple eventually had two sons, Scott and Philip in the early 1950’s. The family relocated to Phoenix in 1959 where, in addition to being a full-time homemaker, "Ellen" Sadler continued to work as a beautician and joined the electronic­s industry at an assembler for Shure Electronic­s. She retired from Shure in the 1980’s and, along with her husband, remained active pursuing interests that included bee-keeping and honey processing, as well as hobbies such as sewing and quilting. The couple moved to a new home in Fountain Hills in the mid-1980’s where they remained active until Gordon’s passing in 2010. MayEllen Sadler finished her life’s journey peacefully Wednesday, February 19, 2014, surrounded by friends, family, and the caring Hospice workers who helped facilitate her passing. She is survived by her sons, Scott Sadler of Phoenix and Philip Sadler of Tempe; her nephew and niece Larry and Geanie McDermott of Washta, Iowa; her sisters Loy McDermott of Washta, Iowa; Elizabeth Coady of Northglenn, Colorado; and Glee Gustafson of Wakefield, Nebraska. Please send any donations to Hospice of the Valley. Visitation will be held from 9:30AM-10:30AM, Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale. Graveside service will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, February 25, 2014, National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix.
