No. 5 Duke bests No. 1 Syracuse after a controvers­ial charge call

DURHAM, N.C. — Rodney Hood scored 13 points and drew the game-changing charging call that helped No. 5 Duke beat No. 1 Syracuse 66-60 on Saturday night.

Freshman Jabari Parker had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (22-6, 11-4 ACC). Jerami Grant had17 points and C.J. Fair finished with13 for the Orange (25-2, 12-2).

Syracuse had the ball down 60-58 in the final seconds when Fair drove past Tyler Thornton along the baseline for an apparent tying layup. But official Tony Greene whistled Fair for charging — and when Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim shot onto the court to argue, Greene slapped him with two technical fouls and ejected him.

The Antelopes (17-8, 6-6) lost to Idaho (19-8, 12-1) 6854 at GCU Arena. Grand Canyon had won 10 straight in the building and were 9-0 this season prior to losing to the Western Athletic Conference leaders.

NAU men

Troy Huff scored 28 points to lead North Dakota ( 1214, 9-7 Big Sky) to a 75-63 victory over the Lumberjack­s (11-16, 8-8) in Flagstaff.

NAU women

The Lumberjack­s shot 62.5 percent from the field, the second-best single-game field goal percentage in school history, and NAU ( 9-16, 6-10 Big Sky) went on to a 86-70 win over host Northern Colorado (14-12, 8-9) in Greeley.
