SOFTBALL: COYLE LEADS DEVILS IN ROUT

-

Cheyenne Coyle hit a three-run homer — one of her two long balls on the night — and No. 4 Arizona State scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning, which was more than enough insurance for Alexis Cooper, who pitched a one-hitter in a 12-1 victory over Seton Hall (3-5) on Friday night at Farrington Stadium.

The Sun Devils (13-0) had a season-high four home runs in the game, three of which came in the fourth inning.

Cooper (1-0) retired the side in the first inning with only four pitches. She built off that momentum, going on to pitch a complete game in five innings of one-hit ball, not giving up an earned run while striking out one.

» No. 14 Arizona (13-1) scored six runs in the third and eight runs in fourth as it cruised to a 14-1, five-inning victory over UNLV (4-8) to close the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday in

Palm Springs.

Kelsey Rodriguez and Kellie Fox homered, while Chelsea Goodacre, Courtney Rodriguez, Katiyana Mauga and Alex Lavine also drove in runs.

Michelle Floyd (3-0) allowed two hits and did not walk a batter.

The freshman struck out two in three innings.

Kenzie Fowler allowed just a hit in two innings, a home run by Pauline Monreal, just the third home run surrendered by UA pitching this season.
