The Plaza downtown is building a 3,500-seat arena on its roof to host the Las Vegas Wranglers icehockey team.

The 45,000-square-foot fabric-shell structure will occupy the area currently covered by the Plaza’s tennis and basketball courts, plus the pool. (The pool is slated to remain.) The fifth floor of the Plaza’s south tower will be converted to locker rooms, medical space and bathrooms.

It will take five months to assemble the structure, which will host midnight games to cash in on downtown’s thriving nightlife scene. The arena is expected to be ready by November and will also be used for public skating, concerts and other events.
