JORDAN BACHYNSKI

-

ASU center with just under six minutes left pulled the Sun Devils within 7372. Three minutes later, Marshall drilled a 3-pointer — his fourth of the game — knotting the score at 80.

After a Texas turnover, Bachynski gave ASU its first lead since the opening minutes, hitting 1 of 2 free throws for an 8180 advantage. On Texas’ next possession, Ridley put back his own miss, putting the Longhorns back in front.

Back and forth it went, down to the final minute, Texas missing two shots — the first was an air ball — but beating ASU to the rebound.

“We got them to take two pretty tough shots and it resulted in five Texas points,” Sendek said. “That’s a tough swallow.”

Texas, improving to 24-10, advances to face second-seeded Michigan on Saturday. In addition to his 12 rebounds, Ridley scored 17 points. Freshman Martez Walker added 16 points. Texas grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, 10 coming in the second half. The Longhorns had 18 fastbreak points.

“At the end of the game, we found a way,” Texas coach Rick Barnes said. “Our guys didn’t flinch.”

Bachynski topped ASU with 25 points, playing perhaps his best game of the season. Carson added 19 points and nine assists in his final collegiate contest, while Marshall contributed 17 points.

The Sun Devils made plays throughout the second half but came up one short, when it mattered most.

“It’s a tough one,” Bachynski said. “It’s a tough way to end the game. It’s a tough way to end my career.”
