OF was sent for an MRI of his ailing right calf, which was negative.

Ellsbury hasn’t played since March 14. He was scratched from Sunday’s game against Atlanta because of right calf tightness.

“I’m sure he’ll take BP tomorrow,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said before Thursday night’s game against Boston.

“We just wanted to make sure he was OK. They decided to do a precautionary. I don’t determine if a guy gets a test. That’s our guys on the medical side.

“Our people just decided let’s be cautious and make sure. We got good news.”

Girardi said he did not have a specific number of days planned for Ellsbury to rest. Detroit: Jose Iglesias will be out four to six months because of stress fractures in both legs.

The Tigers shortstop was examined by Dr. Thomas Clanton, a foot and ankle specialist on Tuesday, and is scheduled to be reevaluated in four months.

Speaking before the Tigers played the Washington Nationals in Viera on Thursday, GM Dave Dombrowski indicated the team is preparing to play the season without Iglesias.

“(He could) perhaps be back later in the year, but in my thought process that’s more unlikely than likely at this point,” Dombrowski said, adding he has been assured Iglesias will be ready to play next season. Atlanta: RHP Brandon Beachy will have ligament-replacement surgery in his right elbow for the second time today and is expected to miss the entire season.

The Braves said that Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache will operate in Los Angeles. Beachy’s ulnar collateral ligament was reconstructed by Dr. James Andrews on June 21, 2012, and Beachy returned to go 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 30 innings over five starts from July 29 to Aug. 20 last summer.

He finished the season on the disabled list because of elbow inflammation and left his third spring- training start after two innings complaining of soreness in his elbow and biceps. LA Angels-Chicago Cubs: The Angels and Cubs included a pair of big names in a minor-league trade.

The Angels dealt 1B Matt Scioscia, the son of manager Mike Scioscia, to the Cubs for OF Trevor Gretzky, the son of hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky.
